The objectives of the tour are to benchmark the facilities, services and operations of the different museum and libraries; to encourage librarians to be more creative and innovative in organizing and managing their own libraries and to enrich their knowledge in redesigning their library set-up, collection and services.
The first stop of the Library Study Tour was at St. Scholastica’s College located at Leon Guinto Street, Malate, Manila. The tour participants visited the BED Library, College Library, Audio-Visual Room and Music Library.
The next stop was the Learning Commons of DLSU located at the 6th to 13th floor of the newly built Henry Sy Building. The participants learned new trends in library services of DLSU Learning Commons which they can use in their own libraries such as Ask LORA (Library Online Reference Assistant), Face-to-Face with RIA (Roving Information Assistant), Iam InfoSMART Information Literacy Program and Webliographies. They also got a chance to take a peek at the digitization process and database of DLSU periodical collections.
The group also visited the country’s first world-class marine theme park and a premiere educational facility wherein the participants can benchmark on organizing and designing library and gallery exhibits and managing tours in their libraries or museums.
The participants were able to encounter various species of friendly sharks, stingrays and starfishes at the Sharks and Rays Encounter and learn environmental protection at a unique bird sanctuary at the Birds of Prey Kingdom. They were also amazed with sea creatures swimming overhead a curved walkway tunnel at the Oceanarium and entertained at the Penguin Talk show, Sea Lion Show and Musical Fountain Show Revolution.
